Life With Cats • Learn With Cats • Talk Story With Cats

Kahu Pōpoki is a Hawaiʻi-based educational and media organization exploring the relationships among cats, people, communities, wildlife, health, conservation, and public policy.

Our work combines lived experience, scientific research, practical animal care, community knowledge, and thoughtful conversation.

Through stories, video, educational resources, research briefs, interviews, and public discussion, Kahu Pōpoki helps people better understand cats and the places they share with us.

Kahu Pōpoki Tools

Coexistence Framework™

The Kahu Pōpoki Coexistence Framework™ is a place-based approach for thinking about cat management across three zones:

PET • COMMUNITY • WILDLIFE

It begins with a simple question:

What approach makes sense for these animals, in this place, based on the actual risks and needs?

Conservation Evidence & Accountability Standard™

The Conservation Evidence & Accountability Standard™ — CEAS™ — helps evaluate conservation claims, interventions, and outcomes through The 8 Conservation Questions.

CEAS asks decision-makers to identify the species or population at issue, understand its status and limiting factors, examine the evidence supporting a claimed threat, and define measurable biological outcomes.

Founder & Spokesperson

Greg “Puʻuwai Aloha” Baker, MBA

Greg Baker is the founder of Kahu Pōpoki and Hawaiʻi Animal Advocacy.

His work combines hands-on community cat management with research, education, organizational leadership, and public-policy analysis.

He has years of experience caring for community cat colonies, conducting TNR, participating in high-quality high-volume spay-neuter clinics and post-operative recovery, caring for sanctuary cats, researching cat and conservation issues, preparing educational materials, and participating in animal-policy discussions in Hawaiʻi.

HAA’s existing media kit similarly presents this combination of hands-on cat-management experience, policy research, public education, and legislative engagement as the foundation for his media work. Pasted markdown
